Simpsons news - killing off a major character

With seventeen characters dying over the years (Mrs Glick, Beatrice Simmons, Gladys Gurney, Captain Tennille, Frank Orman, Bleeding Gums Murphy,  Dr Marvin Monroe, Shary Bobbins, Red Barclay, Amber & Mona Simpson, Frank Grimes, Fat Tony, Snowball II, Pinchy and Poochie; hell one's in the above picture, hi-ya Maude!) executive producer Al Jean informed reporters at a recent conference call that the writers are currently developing a script in which a major character will pass away.

Jean only gave away a few details; but what we do know is that the actor playing the character has won an Emmy award for the role and while it's being produced this year, it could air as a part of season 26 in mid to late 2014. Jean took the vow of silence when asked if the death could lead to a "Who Shot Mr Burns?" type situation, saying only that he hopes the episode leads to "Breaking Bad numbers".

The following characters could potentially be on the chopping block:
- Homer Simpson,  Grampa Simpson, Barney Gumble, Krusty the Clown, Groundskeeper Willie, Mayor Quimby and Sideshow Mel voiced by Dan Castellaneta.
- Chief Clancy Wiggum, Moe Szyslak, Cletus Spuckler, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon and Comic Book Guy voiced by Hank Azaria.
- Sideshow Bob voiced by kelsey Grammer.
- Penelope Owsley (Princess Penelope) voiced by Anne Hathaway.
